I was pretty well aware of your family's situation in Hollywood via Donna's sharing the family history, but I was not aware about the 'other side' of your father, just i was unaware of my own father's intellectual inner life until after he retired from Georgia and moved to S.F. thanks for the newsday link...the video is cleaer than the version I found a few weeks ago..I'd like to share it with others interested in Chinese laundry lives!Chinese American Historian By Chancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07854899482394875674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6024147951366258093.post-40321213837999338712019-06-12T08:15:57.056-07:002019-06-12T08:15:57.056-07:00Hi John, i didn't even know this website exist...Hi John, i didn't even know this website existed until i saw a post about Dong Kingman on Facebook today (June 12, 2019). thanks for reposting my story from the Angel Island Immigration Station Website. i can send you the pictures in the story. for some reason, the pictures don't display in this article. I also made my first student film about my father and his life as a laundryman. It will be available soon for free via your public library's streaming service, Kanopy. Fremont Library). We all attended Vine St. Elementary School. I don't remember the name of the other Chinese laundry in your neighborhood. Good luck finding your friend..<br />Eddieoakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09588591081671630157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6024147951366258093.post-52969588981022872512017-01-31T22:28:05.614-08:002017-01-31T22:28:05.614-08:00Hi there, I came across your beautiful story by ch...Hi there, I came across your beautiful story by chance, and then I realized that perhaps I knew your family. Back in the early sixties, I attended Melrose Avenue Elementary School and had a great Chinese friend whose family owned a laundry. It's the only laundry that was near school and my apt on N. Detroit..Many times I came over there to play. This is around 1960-1962. We moved back East to New York and I lost touch with all those little friends. My Mom is losing her memory now and has difficulty remembering those days. I have a vague memory of seeing a camera crew with my friend - we were hiding and she told me to be very quiet..does this sound at all familiar? I think one of my teacher's name was Ms. Nugent..Please let me know if your sister is the friend I am talking about! We had another friend, I think her name was Sheinda?? Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16303374502142147454noreply@blogger.com
